At McLean Hospital, our staff, faculty, students, volunteers and supporters are dedicated to improving the lives of people and families affected by psychiatric illness. As the largest psychiatric affiliate of Harvard Medical School, McLean has been meeting the needs of individuals and families with psychiatric illness since our founding in 1811. We are here to help you.

History & Progress

Founded in 1811, McLean Hospital was the first psychiatric hospital in New England and the third oldest in the country. While many things have changed since McLean's founding, the commitment to our patients and their families remains the focal point of the hospital's mission.
