Up to 75 percent of youth with substance abuse problems also struggle with psychiatric illness. Our mission at McLean is to address not only the substance abuse issues, but also the mental health issues of teens and young adults. Treating both issues simultaneously is useful because they can exacerbate one another. It is difficult to achieve full recovery from one without also treating the other, therefore, McLean offers comprehensive residential treatment for adolescents and young adults through age 19 who are struggling with co-occurring substance use disorder and psychiatric illness such as ADHD, anxiety, depression and bipolar disorder.

We offer two distinct residential programs. (Click on the name for detailed information about that program.):
- The Landing at McLean® Hospital, a six week dual diagnosis program combining intensive and transitional programming.
- The Adolescent Acute Residential Treatment (ART) program, an intensive short-term dual diagnosis treatment program

If you are interested in The Landing, please inform Gale so she can send additional information that is needed (including clinical and financial requirements). The Transitional Care program at The Landing requires an interview to ensure clinical appropriateness. The clinical team assesses readiness, an important criterion. Adolescents must be motivated for treatment and express a commitment to sobriety to take part in this phase of treatment.
