Division of Geriatric Psychiatry

Geriatric Neuropsychiatry Unit

At the Geriatric Neuropsychiatry Unit, we offer an array of services for adults ages 50 and older with cognitive impairment and co-occurring diagnoses such as depression, anxiety, or thought disorder.

With an average length of stay of between 7 and 14 days, our staff have special expertise in treating Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia and we understand that along with cognitive changes, many individuals experience depression, anxiety, or behavioral disturbances such as agitation.

We use an intensive multidisciplinary approach that integrates behavioral interventions, therapeutic milieu, medication evaluation and management, and group programming to stabilize patients rapidly. The treatment approach is individualized to maximize cognitive and emotional functioning in patients and thus enhance their quality of life.
