Oscar G. Morales: Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) Research

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) uses focused magnetic impulses to non-invasively stimulate the brain in the pre-frontal cortex (the region of the brain associated with mood regulation). With a focus on clinical care, education and research, the Psychiatric Neurotherapeutics Program (PNP) team is committed to improving the quality of life of those with depression and other psychiatric illnesses through emerging techniques, technologies and interventions.

McLean Hospital has been a leader in TMS research since the program's founding in 2010, having participated in various trials that eventually led to FDA approval of TMS as a treatment for depression.
