Roger D. Spealman, PhD is a professor of psychobiology in the Department of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School with appointments at Beth Israel-Deaconess Medical Center and McLean Hospital. He has been an HMS faculty member for more than 35 years and has served in numerous capacities over that period of time. His research focuses on the biological basis and pharmacological and behavioral treatment of substance use disorders, neuropsychiatric disorders, and neurodegenerative disease. A major emphasis of this research is medication discovery and development of novel therapeutic strategies using translational nonhuman primate behavioral and physiological models.
Dr. Spealman is a member of numerous professional organizations and has served on several NIH review, planning and advisory committees. He has served on the Board of Scientific Counselors of NIDA and NIAAA and is a member of the editorial boards of The Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, Experimental and Clinical Psychopharmacology, and Biochemical Pharmacology.
