Stefanie Nickels, PhD, received her BSc and MSc in psychology from Saarland University in Germany before obtaining a doctorate degree from McGill University in Canada. During this time, she specialized in the investigation of interindividual differences using electroencephalography (EEG), and event-related potentials (ERPs).
Dr. Nickels’ current work as a post-doctoral fellow in the Laboratory for Translational and Affective Neuroscience, directed by Dr. Diego A. Pizzagalli, involves the validation of a cross-species translational assessment of reward learning and cognitive control, both of which can be impaired in many psychiatric disorders. The specific goal of this project is to find EEG and ERP measures of cognitive control that can reliably be elicited in both humans and rats, so that appropriate treatment options for patients with deficits in this area may be studied in the rat model as well.
