Naukeag Addiction Treatment Program Relocates and Expands

April 20, 2018

This month, McLean Hospital’s longstanding Naukeag drug and alcohol misuse treatment program moved to an updated, larger location. The newly renamed McLean Naukeag at Prescott program is now located in Petersham, Massachusetts. Housed at Heywood Hospital’s Quabbin Retreat, McLean Naukeag at Prescott is part of a comprehensive project to bring expanded behavioral health services to Central and Western Massachusetts. The program had been operating in Ashburnham, Massachusetts, since 1997.

McLean Naukeag at Prescott is an insurance-based residential and partial hospital (day) treatment program focused on substance use disorders and co-occurring conditions. The program’s features include in-depth individual assessments, group therapy, medication management, illness management, abstinence education, life skills education, aftercare assistance, relapse prevention, and self-help meetings.

According to Program Director William Krauss, LMHC, LCSW, LADCI, “McLean Naukeag at Prescott allows McLean to provide more treatment beds in an area that has a higher opioid overdose rate than the state average.” He explained that “the Quabbin Retreat’s design is to offer a continuum of care for individuals with addiction and mental health disorders.”

In its new location in Petersham, Massachusetts, McLean Naukeag at Prescott will be able to provide increased addiction recovery services

With the move, the program has expanded to 30 beds, which will enable the staff to assist more individuals in the region in need of treatment. To accommodate the added capacity, McLean will increase staff for the program.

The program’s new location, the Quabbin Retreat, is a smoke-free campus that offers up-to-date facilities. With the move, McLean joins Heywood’s Dana Day Treatment Center at Quabbin Retreat, which provides outpatient services for adults who have a dual diagnosis of mental illness and substance use disorders.

“The relocation was a tremendous team effort by many individuals and departments over the last two years,” Krauss said. “We look forward to collaborating with Heywood Hospital and other community programs to provide outstanding behavioral health care to Central and Western Massachusetts.”
