McLean Hospital has announced the official launch of the public phase of The Way Forward: Campaign for McLean. This is the most ambitious fundraising effort in McLean’s history, with a goal of raising $225 million to transform the hospital’s future.
This campaign is not only the largest in McLean’s history but also the largest of any psychiatric hospital in the nation. The Way Forward will help the hospital expand its impact through:
- Enhancing care environments for young patients by building a new, state-of-the-art academic and residential campus for children and adolescents
- Leveraging specialized expertise to innovate continuously in treatment, research, and training
- Accelerating the deployment of technologies to improve access to care, patient experience, clinical outcomes, and research capabilities
One of the highlights of this campaign is the creation of a new, 90,000-square-foot child and adolescent campus, which will be fully funded by philanthropy.
McLean projects that this new campus will be home to new and expanded capacities, including the Arlington School and Pathways Academy, as well as a broad array of residential and partial hospital programs. There will be shared spaces such as a gym, recreational areas, and community spaces. This entire project will be designed to provide a nurturing environment for the children and families served by the hospital.
“With its focus on children and adolescents, The Way Forward campaign brings an opportunity to change lives today and impact generations to come,” said Scott L. Rauch, MD, McLean’s president and psychiatrist in chief.
“This ambitious campaign will create modern, effective environments that promote learning and growth for our students and youngest patients. It will foster innovation in research and practice, leading to better outcomes. And it will elevate expertise in the field and in mental health awareness more broadly.”
The overall campaign includes:
- $125 million for the child and adolescent campus
- $80 million for clinical research and training priorities across the hospital’s 7 divisions
- $15 million for the President’s Campaign Fund (unrestricted)
- $5 million for technology initiatives
The Way Forward is a campaign that does more than simply look to the future of mental health care and research—it shapes that future.
