Overview

McLean Hospital is dedicated to providing high-quality, compassionate mental health care and to improving the lives of patients and families affected by psychiatric illness.

We understand that patient billing can sometimes be confusing and difficult to understand. We will work with you and your family prior to admission or start of services and throughout the course of treatment to determine the most cost-effective care that meets clinical needs. McLean’s insurance-based programs accept many major health insurance plans, including Medicare and Massachusetts Medicaid. Most health insurance policies provide benefits for psychiatric services. However, access to these benefits is often restricted or limited, particularly for certain types of comprehensive care. In general, short-term inpatient, partial hospitalization (day treatment), and outpatient services are often covered by insurance, while benefits for residential and long-term care may be limited. Some of McLean’s programs are self-pay and therefore do not accept insurance or assist with insurance reimbursement efforts. However, some service fees at these programs may be recoverable through insurance.

McLean’s policy outlines that the individual accepting financial responsibility for a patient’s treatment is responsible for payment and is expected to keep the account current for out of pocket balances.

Financial Assistance

McLean Hospital recognizes that some patients have limited means and may not have access to insurance coverage for all services. We therefore have a financial assistance program for uninsured patients and underinsured patients with limited financial resources. Visit the Partners HealthCare website to learn more.

Charge Information

Effective 1/1/2019, the federal government has required all hospitals to make available a list of standard hospital charges. The hospital charge information is NOT an estimate of the costs that you are responsible for paying.
